Health Benefits of Eating "क़्वाटी"

Eating Kwati has been practiced on Janapurnima since time immemorial. Kwati is a spicy food cooked in the kitchen of Nepalis. The word Kwati is derived from the Nepali word "क्वाँ" means hot and "टी" means liquid or soup, so Kwati means hot soup. Nine varieties of beans are used to make kwati. The most commonly used ingredients are black gram, green gram, chickpea, field bean, soybean, field pea, garden pea, cowpea and rice bean.

This is a special kind of traditional Nepali dish made of sprouts. As Nepal is an agricultural country, it is believed that in the rainy season, people eat a lot to bring energy to the body and get rid of the cold.

Cereals is considered to be very beneficial for health as it is cooked when sprouts starts to appear after soaking in water. It is customary to eat Kwati on the full moon day after sprouting nine different cereals.

Carbohydrates, Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals, Folic acid, Fiber as well as Iron are also found in abundance. It helps in strengthening the muscles of the body as it is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. This food is useful for children, the elderly and people of all ages. We can also make Kwati soup and eat it. We can also use it mixed with food. It is more suitable for pregnant women. Cereals is also beneficial for people who do not eat much meat.

  3. It slows down the aging process and makes people beautiful, healthy and disease free.

  6. Kwati is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and minerals.
  7. It reduces body fatigue and relieves stress.
  8. Increases immunity.
  9. Malnutrition in patients, children and the elderly can be eliminated.
  10. Regular consumption of Kwati also enhances memory.
  11. Improves mental health.
  12. There are many benefits to the circulatory and nervous systems.
  13. Sprouted beans have more alkaline properties. Therefore, quantity of food can also get rid of problems like 'acidity' and urinary tract infections.
